If there is one thing I’ve learned the past couple of years while out bird watching, it’s to always expect the unexpected.
As an example, during the last couple of days of January of 2021, I sat and watched an American white pelican as well as a white-faced ibis land right in front of me while photographing black-crowned night herons at Farmington Bay.
Both of these species were way out of their normal migration timing by showing up in late January of last year.
Well, suffice it to say, today at Farmington Bay I saw a quite out-of-place very early flock of nine American white pelicans.
I’ve also been watching a small flock of white-faced ibis for a couple months now that have obviously stayed all winter long on Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area.
For those of us bird watchers that thrive on such odd and very unusual bird sightings, this year at Farmington Bay is not slowing down with several of these sightings for me in recent months.
