About Bear River Blogger

Thanks for visiting Bear River Blogger, a website where I blog about the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge as well as other interesting places in nature.

I am a professional outdoor freelance photographer and bird watcher who has decided to put his voice out there on the blogosphere.

My interest in bird watching started when I was very young, in 1979 to be precise, when my dad took me on my very first birding expedition at Farmington Bay Wildlife Management Area in northern Utah.

Immediately, it got me hooked on bird watching and I have been an avid birder since that very day.

Much of my birding and outdoor photography experience comes from the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge and has for several decades since the refuge was rebuilt after the devastating floods in 1983.

I actually visit the refuge at least weekly and in many cases numerous times per week.

I spend hours and hours each week searching for and photographing interesting scenes on the refuge in hopes of showing others what a valuable resource the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge really is.

I got started with photography in 1986 when I took a photography class in school thinking it would be an easy way to pad the GPA.

I hate to admit that was my first exposure with photography, no pun intended, and I was learning not only about light and composition but we delved into developing film and printing black and white prints as well.

Needless to say, my plans about bolstering my GPA didn’t go as easy as I thought but it was a great learning experience for something I would eventually come back to years later with the advent of the digital camera.

A few years later the desire to photograph nature turned into a desire to be an outdoor writer.

I always thought writing and photographing the natural world around us would be a cool way to earn a paycheck. Fast forward to more recent times when I decided to finally make something happen with both of those long-time interests which have been hiding just underneath the surface for many years but never forgotten.

With the internet and the ability to self publish content online, I realized I could finally do what I had always wanted to do and do it my way.

I have waded into the shallow end of the world of blogging on my photography site but never gave it the time it deserved on the writing end of the spectrum.

I mainly use it to promote my photography business and share some of my images online.

With Bear River Blogger, however, I hope for and intend to be a bit more fruitful with the written word as well as with digital images.

It won’t necessarily be a photography based website but one about what’s in the images I try to capture.

I hope to spend the time talking about the birds, butterflies, and all the other cool stuff I get to see each and every day I pick up my camera and head out and try and capture parts of nature.

This blog is partially based around the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge and the adjoining Great Salt Lake ecosystem but will cover other aspects of nature as I see fit.

I also plan on spending a bit more time on my photography website discussing more of the photography aspects not intended for this website.
