Free Beginning Outdoor Photography Workshop

Yes, you heard it correctly. Each year I put on a free outdoor photography workshop at the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge headquarters in Brigham City, Utah. It is my way of giving back to the bird refuge which I love and cherish so much.

A lot of my time photographing and watching birds is spent on the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge so it only makes sense to me to offer a completely free outdoor photography workshop for beginners wanting to enhance their photography skills.

Tundra swans resting on the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge during spring migration offer a great bird watching experience.

The workshop is typically held on the second Saturday in March. Even though the official date has not been set yet we are tentatively looking at March 9, 2019 as the date. The event corresponds with the annual Swan Day at the refuge which celebrates the migrating tundra swans which pass through the refuge each spring and fall. It’s a great time to see some of nature’s most beautiful birds for the short time they are here.

The workshop lasts about 2 hours and usually starts at 10:00 am, just after the visitors center opens for the day. We cover basic photography topics as gear, composition, light and a few other things which will help you expand your photography skills. It has always been a great event so plan on coming to the 2019 Swan Day and Beginning Outdoor Photography Workshop at the Bear River Migratory Refuge. We will post more information as it becomes available about the exact date and time.
