It’s been staring at me for several months now and today I just had to give in and indulge myself, the temptation was just too great.
What I am referring to is I finally pulled my mountain bike out of the garage after a long sabbatical and took it for a spin.
But this was no ordinary bike ride, it was something I’ve been wanting to do for a very long time.
I took a bird-watching trip atop my mountain bike around part of Farmington Bay to combine two of my favorite things to do ever since I was a kid, biking and bird watching.
And to add to the story, I attached a camera to my chest to record the ride for my YouTube channel in an effort to show others what is behind the gates at Farmington bay, places most people never get to see if they don’t duck hunt or able to go for a long walk.

Truthfully, I am not much of a videographer and this was the first time trying this type of thing but I am planning on doing more of these videos with my mountain bike so if this interests you, sign up and follow our YouTube channel.
Starting in mid-September most of Farmington Bay is opened back up again to the public.
With the duck hunt starting just a couple weeks later, this gives visitors a chance to enjoy parts of the wildlife sanctuary that is closed during the breeding season to help protect nesting birds and other wildlife.
Farmington Bay has plenty of gravel roads to travel by foot or by bike during fall and winter for anyone wanting to get out and enjoy some birding or just a casual walk out in nature.
The gravel roads at Farmington Bay are flat and relatively smooth, as much as a gravel road can be I suppose, and I found it quite easy to bike around the preserve, only having to stop to record a few added segments for the attached video.
I am one that believes the best way to enjoy nature is to sometimes get out of the vehicle and experience the outdoors first-hand on foot and a mountain bike around Farmington Bay is a great way to do just that.
