Grebes With Babies On Their Backs

clarks grebe with a baby on its back

Without question, the number one request I have had this year is when the grebes on the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge are available to be seen with babies on their backs.

Well, I am here to tell you now is the time. I saw my first Clark’s grebe with a baby on its back yesterday on the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge auto tour route.

It was on the southeast corner of the loop, but they can usually be seen all along the south and east waterways during the month of June.

I only saw one, but I wanted to let you all know now so you can plan to come and see them for yourselves.

This isn’t a very good image due to the horrible midday sun and how far away it was, but this is my first sighting for the year of a Clark’s grebe with a baby on its back.

(The first sighting for me of the year of a grebe with a baby on it’s back.)

June is the best month to see grebes with babies on their back on the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge auto tour route.

And as time progresses through their breeding season, more and more of them will be out and about so keep an eye out on the auto loop for baby grebes because they are starting to appear.

I hope this helps those of you that have inquired about the grebes on the refuge auto tour route.
