This short blog post won’t have anything to do with the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge per say but rather to show how dry conditions are up in Box Elder County, Utah where the refuge is located.
About 20 miles north of the refuge is the small town of Tremonton Utah and today they are experiencing the start of a hot and very dry summer. We had an exceptional wet spring so grass and vegetation grew very well in the cool wet weather but now that extra tall and thick vegetation is drying out and becoming a great fire hazard.
Here are a few images I took from Salt Creek Wildlife Management Area, a state run wildlife sanctuary which is sits in between the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge and the town of Tremonton, of the radio hill wildfire which is raging up on a dry hill on the outskirts of town.
Let’s hope there are no casualties or loss of property with this fire and that the summer won’t lead to anymore wildfires.
Normally this blog is dedicated to birds, butterflies and nature regarding the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge but we felt reporting this wildfire which is burning about 20 miles north of the refuge was an important story to depict through our photography.
